When I contacted this Silverdale preschool about taking their school photos, they were grateful for the call! They had not offered school pictures before and were beginning to look for one. Meeting in person was the next step.
I love going into schools. My mom is a teacher, and I taught for several years. Having spent way more time in a school than your average person, I find something about them comforting. The air seems to be filled with inspiration, hopes, dreams, and compassion. This school was no different.
We discussed the specific challenges they faced. It was a small space, but with some creative rearranging, we made it work. The students’ schedules varied. We worked out a plan to meet everyone’s needs. Some of the students were ESL (English Second Language). An aide would be available to help me with their specific needs. My teaching experience and four years of high school Spanish came in handy!
On picture day, some of the students were very timid. We would let them watch their classmates. To put them at ease, I explained to them how everything worked and let them hold a toy I had brought (that was later cleverly cropped out of the images.) I even let a few take a picture of me! The teachers were amazed by how some of the students really opened up and let their beautiful smiles shine. The kids with personality to spare were a hoot! One little boy was very excited about my knowledge of Ninjago. We could have talked all day- or at least he could have talked to me and I would have understood most of it.
I am so very happy that this preschool’s first experience with school pictures exceeded their expectations. They specifically said they appreciated how I handled all parents’ questions, leaving them able to focus on teaching and being able to use the pictures for their own use. I expect our next picture day together will be even better! See you in the fall!

Putting Students at Ease As a former teacher, I know how stressful school picture day can be especially if you are in middle school. You want to stand out from the crowd, but not too much, you also need to fit in. You haven’t really figured out who you are yet, much...
I am so excited to share pictures from a preschool I photographed in Bremerton! This school had problems with photographers in past, and it took up too much of their time. They took a chance on me though, and everyone is very pleased with the results! Preparation...
