Because I am all about supporting your growing family and encouraging you to spend meaningful time together and also because we live in a military community, I am featuring local businesses and attractions to let you know what is available to help you raise your family.
Blossom Baby started two years ago and has already outgrown its space! They recently relocated to a larger location which features a kid play area, a dad waiting area, and a classroom.
In the Beginning
Jenna, Andria, and Lori met in cloth diapering and baby wearing groups. When a similar Poulsbo store closed shortly before Blossom Baby opened, they were ready to fill the need. Their mission has always been, and continues to be, to provide knowledge and support to young families to help them make the best informed decision in how to raise their children. They envisioned creating a community space to share knowledge, bring in experts, and above all support and accept however you choose to parent.
The ladies at Blossom Baby strive to offer products that cannot be found in your traditional big-box stores. While you can order the products they sell online, they understand how confusing and overwhelming all the choices can be! That is where Blossom Baby becomes your go-to for all things baby Not only do the ladies personally use the brands sold in their store, they have the knowledge and education to help you find the best one to fit your needs and use them properly.
They attend the ABC Kids Expo in Las Vegas every year seeking out the latest and greatest products in “crunchy” parenting, ready to try them, and bring them to you. When searching for products to fit the needs of their customers, they always begin searching close to home, preferring to support local businesses first. One of these local businesses creates clothing and accessories with the emblems of the Navy boats stationed in the area. Some of the other local businesses create hats, bows, and even silicone dishes!
Baby carriers in a multitude of brands and styles are available for you try and purchase at Blossom Baby. (You can even consign your old one.) Andria, Lori, and Jenna understand that every carrier is going to fit you and your baby differently and how essential it is find the perfect fit so you and your baby are confident and comfortable. They offer free one-on-one consultations to help you find the perfect one, or just to help you make the most of the one you currently have. Lori is a Certified Babywearing Consultant and Andria is a Master Babywearing Consultant. That means they have taken classes, advanced training, and tests to ensure they are able to answer all your questions and help you be successful at babywearing. This includes being able to explain the physics of babywearing, the different carriers, and how to adapt for special needs children, even how to manage it with twins.
Blossom Baby sells cloth diapers, training pants, and diaper covers in all sizes. They even have sizes beyond the toddler years for children with special needs or those having trouble with bed wetting. They do not do consignment on cloth diapers. However, they do have their annual cloth diaper exchange weekend where all their customers can bring in their cloth diapers to sell. Blossom Baby takes no cut of those sales. Jenna is the resident cloth diapering guru. She is eager to teach families the differences between the different brands, how to care for them, and decide if it is a good fit for their family.
Andria, Lori, and Jenna are all certified to inspect car seat installation in your car. They attend classes and must renew annually to stay up-to-date with the latest car seat models, cars, and laws. All you need to do is make an appointment!
As if the free expert knowledge is not enough, Blossom Baby continually hosts events and brings in more experts to answer all your parenting questions. Monthly the store is transformed into a yoga studio. Led by Fidel Forte, a yogi, military spouse, and stay-at-home dad of four, parents are able to find their zen with their children present. Cloth Diapering 101 classes are offered monthly. Social meet-ups to help you connect to people like you are scheduled. Lori told me about some other events they have in the works. I would love to attend them if my children were smaller!
When I asked Lori what family meant to her, I was very surprised by her response. The response I hear nearly every time I ask this question is “everything.” Lori said “Love, support, and respect… Not everyone does these things (baby wearing, cloth diapering, breast feeding) and that’s okay. We give the knowledge that we have… and if you choose not to, that’s okay.”
The more I learn about Blossom Baby, the more I wish I had known them when I was a first time mom! When my first son was born, we were stationed literally half way around the world from my family. To have had the support and knowledge from Andria, Lori, Jenna, and their community definitely would have made me feel less alone and more confident in some of my decisions.
